Adding material count in puzzles

so one can quickly see who has more material

Puzzles are all about developing skills. I don't mind practicing counting pieces, too.

In the vast majority of puzzles, it doesn't matter anyway.

why does it not matter?

At our level, most puzzles end in either checkmate or winning a piece. You don't need to know the material balance for those.
