Hola!

I use e/os (a de-googled Android clone based on LineageOS) on a Fairphone 3+ using the built-in App Lounge Store. For years I have been using a version of the Lichess client which I think culminated in version 8.0.0. Recently this version of the app kept notifying me that a new version was available but the store didn't flag any updates for this app. I was concerned something was amiss, so uninstalled and re-installed the Lichess client - and now I have something completely different - version 0.30.3 and the whole look and feel has changed (it is more like a minified version of the web interface). I personally prefer the old version - but that's not my question <- Is the version I am on correct? How to validate that?

yes you have the correct version . One you have been using has been out of maintenance (perhaps some critical bugs could get a fix) for few years. It was about the time to switch to new
