What original poster is saying has some validity.
Lichess does offer a deal saying: If you want to be a (visible) donor, a plausible amout for a lifetime is (something),
so Lichess Lifetime Patron can mean buying peace of mind about donating money to Lichess.
I have two legit accounts (rarely seen bot and frequently seen human-only), both are Lichess Lifetime Patrons and as long as nothing bad happens to my accounts I expect that the deal is that I have paid all that I am expected to pay so that I myself can feel good about it, no matter if I love chess or hate chess and no matter if I have a healthy or unhealthy relationship with chess.

To be more clear - it applies to any patron type even the lowest amount. If someone has donated in any fashion they have already become a patron.
My suggestion is to remove that extra text which has become inaccurate or tweak it. If the button said “donate” or “donate again” for example the UI would be correct. It can be confusing for a donor to then see that and wonder if they donated correctly. I’m not asking because it’s a nag to donate again, it’s that the wording becomes incorrect and confusing.
