Have there been changes to time calculations?

A few weeks ago, I found that I was losing a LOT less on time, in 1-min bullet games, and my ELO climbed significantly to all time highs. This lasted a little while but then about a week ago it has reverted and now I lose games that I feel like I am playing faster in, by sometimes seven seconds or even more. Had something changed? For us players in far out places this makes a huge difference.

That being said, Lichess is still so much better than playing bullet in chess.com. Every once in a while I go back and try that site and then after a few games I think, yep, this is why I never play here anymore. The disadvantage from playing in South Africa is enormous.

So thanks to the lichess team anyway!

I haven't seen any code changes to lag compensation. There is a balance: we want to compensate players without slowing down the game for their opponents.

https://lichess.org/lag may provide some information about your connection latency to Lichess.
