While the icons are rather pointless in games and just annoy people it could be useful for forum posts as you can quickly tell if you've solved it or not
As from the above image you'll see there aren't any icons indicating white successfully executed a checkmate.
You may argue it says Checkmate with a green tick but in games it also says checkmate and that hasn't stopped icons being added so I think this is an absolutely essential feature...
