I liked lichess for it's welcoming community, despite the site being only black & white I stuck by it because it seemed like a nice place. However, the one time I had a bad experience playing on this site I made a post about it, and I was met with nothing but criticism and mockery. It was that switching tabs for a single second or disconnecting allows the opponent to immediately claim a win, it's so unfair. I like having the opportunity to switch away from the site to destress during an intense game, and voicing the unfairness and frustration of this situation just gets you silenced, or downvoted. A good chess site would honestly care about the user experience of each individual player, and at least make it an eventual goal to make everyone who loves the game be able to play without difficulty or discomfort. I think there should be a good credit system for players who have never abandoned a single chess game or left the clock run out in their entire history of thousands of games to not be instantly met with "abandoning too many games will result in etc." the moment they switch tabs and come back to the game

Maybe you should learn that there are these things called automated programs, and that it isn't a good idea to go to different tabs while playing, also I think this will end in criticism and mockery again :p

It is not the act of switching tabs that allows your opponent to claim a win; rather, it is being disconnected for more than 30 seconds. Your browser may be configured to disconnect inactive tabs due to Memory Saver or similar settings. You can:
- Disable these settings
- Whitelist lichess from these settings
- Have lichess in a separate window; when you switch to a different window, the tab is still treated as 'active'
- If playing on mobile, use the lichess app instead of a browser
Hope this helps!

Note that the game clock still runs down even if you are not disconnected.
