i agree with clousems generally, but i don't agree on picking a bishop. personally, i think it should be a pawn, as the most versatile chess piece. additionally, i think it should be emphasised more, so using a colourised one will be better. i would use green, that's an innocuous colour.

The basic way to solve it without the devs doing more code is to use userstyle (user-modified css)

Yes, I can see it now-- a green pawn! And then, to show everyone how cool our pawn is, we should make our UI terrible and throw in a bunch of ads. That way, more people will be drawn to paying attention to our pretty green pawn, because it will be the only thing worth seeing.

Can this be easily achieved on a phone, in either mobile Firefox or Chrome? That's the main use case when I and others are at a chess club or tournament amongst otb players, who we might not wish to accidentally reveal our account name to for obvious reasons.

Perhaps instead of a setting (I understand having too many settings can confuse users), the menu could hide our username by default and only show it on hover - that's probably the easiest interim solution as far as dev time goes, if I'm not mistaken?

That said, I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of the username being displayed is other than to show we're logged in as said user - maybe a splash of colour could similarly indicate that state (along with the on hover element)?

I should probably also note that the official Android app currently displays our username in the left drawer menu, so in some ways that's easier to keep "private" (so long as we take care when opening that menu), I did forget about this since I'm more in the habit of opening Lichess on a phone via a browser's home screen shortcut.

I'm not sure what v2 of the Lichess app will look like, but my feature request for now mainly with regards to the official website itself. Does anyone else encounter this "prep leak problem" when analysing with others during otb tournaments?

Yes, I am always reluctant to open lichess on site for exactly this reason. And the username is visible in many places if you are not careful...
