Before, the players search tab (tournaments, main menu, etc.) only showed usernames after you typed at least 3 digits. Now it seems like the system was changed from 3 digits to 4 digits, and I understand the reason why. It is in some way convenient to limit the options and make finding the player you are searching for easier, but it's also extremely annoying when the username's 4th digit is a « _ », « - », number, or when you are unfamiliar with the username's 4th digit. Another thing is, how are we supposed to search 3-digit usernames? I prefer the 3-digit system, as it is more practical and in need; you can always type the 4th digit yourself.
Another strange thing I encountered was that when somebody's account was marked or closed, the text sometimes showed up in a random language. For example, somebody's account was marked/banned, but the text, "The Lichess Terms of Service were violated on this account" was in russian, although my site's language is set to English. Or when I put my cursor on a username whose account was closed, the text "This account is closed." was in Arabic. However, when I exit the account and open it again, it's usually in English - the right language.

Yes I do think the 3 digit is better
Not only when the account is marked it shows some random language whenever I search the opponents rating like when you hover on their username it showed me 22-30 as our score in another language but when I checked if we played that many games it shows that I played against my opponent only once
There is something going on in Lichess
