Subject: Appeal regarding topic deletion — "humiliation" classification

Hi,

I'm writing regarding the deletion of my topic and the reason given for it — "humiliation of a player."

In the deleted topic, I stated that after analyzing the game, the player appeared to be playing as a coach/trainer. The topic was removed on the grounds that it constituted "humiliation of the player."

I'd like to point out a clear contradiction. The platform itself publicly labels players as cheaters by displaying a "cheater" banner on their profiles. This is apparently not considered humiliation. However, when I repeat essentially the same characterization in a discussion — based on the platform's own findings — it is suddenly classified as "humiliation." This is a double standard.

To be specific: the platform called the player a cheater. I simply echoed that assessment. If calling someone a cheater is humiliating, then the platform is humiliating thousands of players by attaching that label to their profiles. If it's not humiliating when the platform does it, why is it humiliating when a user says the same thing?

Furthermore, if I am now being labeled a cheater or a violator for repeating what the platform itself stated, then by the same logic, I am the one being humiliated — called out and penalized for echoing your own conclusion.

I am responding to your question.

I see your point, but there's a flaw in the logic. You say Lichess doesn't publicly announce "this dude is cheating" — but that's exactly what the cheater mark on a player's profile does. It's visible to anyone who visits the profile. It's not hidden in some backend database — it's a public label, plain for everyone to see.

To use an analogy: if someone writes "you're a fool" on your back and forehead, is that not an insult just because they didn't shout it down the street? Of course it is. A visible, public label is a public statement — whether it's spoken out loud or quietly stamped on a profile.

So the distinction you're drawing — "Lichess does it quietly, the forum does it loudly" — doesn't hold. Both are public. The only difference is who's making the statement: the platform or a user. And if the platform itself labels thousands of players as cheaters for everyone to see, calling that "not humiliation" while calling a forum post "humiliation" for saying the same thing is a double standard.

Not attacking you, just pointing out the inconsistency. I get that Lichess has anti-cheat for a reason — that's exactly why I trust their judgment and echoed it.

Does it? As far as I can say, all it says is that the account has violated Lichess Terms of Service which does not necessarily mean cheating.
