Terminated accounts & username availability

Hello,

According to the Lichess ToS, reasonably an account can "be removed due to prolonged inactivity".

When such an account is terminated, does the username become available again?

My desire is to create a new account, with the username of another account that has been inactive for over 10 years - with only 2 games played.

Thanks in advance.

If you try to visit the profile of an account that never existed, e.g. @thisneverexisted, it'll just say "This username doesn't match any Lichess player".

If you go to the profile page of a closed account, like @cheater, it'll say "This username doesn't match any Lichess player. It cannot be used to create a new account."

So, no. The original owner of the account may be able to ask for the account to be reopened, but creating a new account using an existing name is not possible.

I see, that's a shame. Thanks for the information.

it cannot be allowed as lichess database still contains games with closed accounts. So it would be confusing.
