I am not the OP, but I do not understand how this would explain it:
If someone above OP gets banned, OP goes up one
For example if the 497th person(no offense to the person who finished 497th, this is just an example) gets banned, OP would get 498th place
But if people below them get banned, nothing changes
The entire tournament below 499 might as well get completely erased but still OP will be in 499th place(in this example, the last one)

OP was on place 511. There were 78 ToS violaters in total. 12 above him. The system runs a script that deletes
the ToS violaters. He ranked on place 499.
The script that give the trophys to the players run before the script that deletes the ToS violaters.
If Lichess change the order of script execution the problem would be solved.

But thats not how it works, is it?
If you got second place in a tournament, and the 1st place gets banned, it shows up as second place still
If you go to the tournament you will see that OP got 499th place, not 511th...?

Open the tournament. You can see 22560 registered players. Go to the end of the rankings and you will see this.
There are 22482 players left. 78 players are deleted. Why are they deleted? ToS violation.

If players cheated, tournament trophies should adjust. Mods can manually give trophies, when scripts run doesn't matter.
