I doubt there are many of us on here, but rejoice! For I have created a sanctuary for us. There are no cameras, microphones, nosy neighbors, kids, spouses, or thought police here! We can talk freely without the constraint of Big Brother staring down upon us. Always remember, 2 plus 2 makes 4!

You got it mixed up. For thousands of years our superiors have forced upon the 'fact' that 2+2 = 4.
It's just a word. 2+2= 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. as you wish.
I really wish that Orwell would have made Winston die while still mentally resisting the party. The ending sucked. I much prefer Brave New World.

Orwell's book just had to follow through and stay completely bleak and depressing right until the end.
I don't remember how Brave New World ended, was it somewhat more hopeful?

I mean, I get it, but damn, that ending would not leave my head for days after reading it. Maybe that's just a sign of good writing, but it was pretty depressing. It's like Orwell wouldn't even give us a tragedy. Instead of feeling sad, it just leaves you feeling hollow.

It ended tragically, but the protoganist doesn't lose his humanity like Winston does. I don't know if I should go into detail in case anyone here hasn't read it

Brave new World has a better plot, but 1984 has far better writing, and has less 18+ moments.

1984 has some major pacing issues though... like that huge chapter we didn't really need
