Adult Chess Improvers need the help of Andragogy not Pedagogy.

That would still not fully solve my issue with getting puzzles of the right difficulty

I made a project that allows you to set the puzzles you need according to the desired level. Will you try it?

You wrote a lot in your first message. I don't agree. The principle of learning is absolutely the same for everyone, both for children and for adults. An adult (you) is different in that they can come up with extra problems, extra obstacles, and try to overcome something that doesn’t exist.
First you need to learn to think for 1 move.
Then move forward 2 moves.
Then move forward 3 moves.
This is enough to reach 2000.

I didn't read the whole OP but yeah, adult improves have to be more systematic about learning.

"Solve these under some time pressure"

  • You should solve puzzles as the same pace as you play.
It makes no sense to solve a puzzle in 5 minutes and play at 5 seconds / move.

This is a good point. Taking time to solve puzzles & then playing bullet is ...

I mean, five minutes is probably too much, but isn't it helpful to practice puzzles a bit slower than you play so that you can get used to certain patterns? Speaking as a new player, if I'm trying to solve every puzzle in five seconds I'm just going to keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

"five minutes is probably too much"

  • No, not necessarily. In classical time control grandmasters often think one hour on one move.

"isn't it helpful to practice puzzles a bit slower than you play"

  • No, on the contrary you should play slower than you solve puzzles. With a puzzle you know there is a tactic and for whom. In a game you have to assume there is a tactic either for you or for your opponent, until you have ascertained yourself there is none.

"if I'm trying to solve every puzzle in five seconds I'm just going to keep making the same stupid mistakes"

  • For the same reason you should not play bullet or blitz.

I beg to differ. Adults are just like kids, and they dont care anymore.
