Did you hear of any person that was ever adversely effected by a y2k bug?

I spent some money on books about the Y2K bug.

As I still enjoy reading my one fayourite book about the Y2K bug I had to search online for 19 years (until december 16, 2018) and I had to buy several books to find this book again (a tiny German booklet "100 Fragen zum Jahrtausendwechsel" ("100 questions on the millenium change")).

Finding this book again bothered me a long time.

And of course instead of watching beautiful fireworks I looked at the clock of my computer (the first computer I ever programmed something on) with some kind of Angstlust between 99-12-31 and 00-01-01 (pun intended).

I even drank, out of curiosity, some tap water from a bathtub that my parents stored just in case and that might not have been of the best drinkable quality.

I guess I can proudly say: Yes, I was ever adversely effected by a y2k bug. :-)

And by the way, so little happening was the result of spending many resources worldwide to fix lots and lots of old computer systems in advance, so the Y2K bug was a real thing and not a hoax.

To me, this was the error that had the most serious consequences:

"In Sheffield, United Kingdom, a Y2K bug that was not discovered and fixed until 24 May caused computers to miscalculate the ages of pregnant mothers, which led to 154 patients receiving incorrect risk assessments for having a child with Down syndrome. As a direct result two abortions were carried out, and four babies with Down syndrome were also born to mothers who had been told they were in the low-risk group."

Its a little hysterical to think back on it, there were y2k sections within technology of bookstores.

I was celebrating that new year in my aunt house. I turned the computer on to see it fry.
As expected, it changed from 1999 to 2000 without a problem.

There was a marketing pitch for hardware to be y2k compliant. $$$

It was a big scam. All companies went crazy and wasted money on projects to cure the bug.

Nope. There were very few problems because companies did the preventive projects to prevent problems. Had the projects not been done then there would have been problems.
