There IS a political tendency, by some, to keep the suggestible in a constant state of angry anxiety. By doing that, those some can propose that giving them power is the way out! It's gotten stale, but it's still going on.

I don't think this thread was intended politically, however. I think it was trying to invoke our imaginations. Rather like asking, hypothetically, "you're marooned on a desert island, which three things did you wisely bring along with you?"

As always, I could be wrong. But the OP seemed to be just trying to start a discussion. I didn't take seriously the notion that the world was ACTUALLY ending, because it's not and I don't think the original post was trying to change anybody's mind about that.

I do worry, however, that the young and impressionable, especially, might think that it is ending. They've heard it repeated, in one form or another, over and over and over and over by many who are politically ambitious, after all.

But I hope they don't worry. As we learn from experience, not every shouted threat is to be taken seriously.

Fifty years ago, half of young people were CONVINCED that the "Age of Aquarius" was dawning, and that the world would be transformed! And sometime after that, everybody became concerned about Global Cooling. Then Y2K (oh no!).

But life goes on, and things are actually, slowly, improving.

Are you talking about this? It's simple: Just change to 64-bit OS.
