This could perhaps serve to start a topic in its own right -- but does humanity (as it sometimes seems) increasingly dwell on unlikely end-of-the-world scenarios?
And (here's the implied, follow-on question): does an increasing percentage of us find some sad solace in a notion that at least we might ALL be unhappy and fearful soon?
Humanity really isn't likely to end in our lifetime, or even before or within the lifetimes of our great-great-great-grandchildren. Yet, increasingly, writing that begins to feel weirdly like a heresy of some sort.
Let's hope that happier times are coming soon. Indeed, THAT'S much more likely, based upon the apparent cycles of history.
I'm not betting upon the planet killing asteroid. But I'm sure we'll see many more internet stories with headlines suggesting that one might be on the way!!!!!! (Click bait being apparently somehow profitable).
