Purpose of sandbagging in games

We all know the "purpose" of sandbagging in chess(don't dare to do it).

What about others?

From the ToS:

  • Sandbagging - This is where a rating is artificially deflated, such as by resigning early, losing or drawing having put no real effort into the game, against an opponent who may be an active and willing participant or a victim.

They do that to win lower-rated tournaments.

This is maybe not the case in other games, maybe.

Also have to realize that, especially in 1 minute games, what appears to be sandbagging is often any of A) internet issues B) server issues C) having to deal with something suddenly etc. It happens a lot more than you might think.

All rating manipulation is prohibited.
Sandbagging essentially is losing games on purpose to lower your rating so you will be matched with players below your actual strength.
