Questions without an answer

Man there‘s a lot to respond to.

You can't scientifically prove or disprove it one way or the other. And this is a purely theoretical discussion.

And evolution seems less logical to you than a power higher than space and time that has no logical explanation, reasoning, origin whatsoever?
And in this case I‘m talking about the evolution of the universe, not the one according to Darwin, call me scientificically incorrect.

wanted to explain something so they made up god
Then they must have really wanted to experience physical suffering, and really hated 'earthly' pleasures like money and hedonistic relations.

Or it maybe was the other way around: That physical suffering was so terrible to them that they believed that the gods, which they made up before to explain phenomena that they couldn’t logically comprehend, were the only or most plausible explanation for such terrible suffering. Same counts for the pleasures, they believed that those pleasures were so great, only gods could possibly grant them. Sounds a lot more plausible if you‘re able to ask questions the correct way around.

Oh, by the way, @MysteryPhantom7, is it "reasonable" to you that a big pool of amino acids and other substances JUST HAPPENED to collect on a certain planet just the optimal distance from their star, at JUST the right time, and timely reactions JUST SPONTANEOUSLY HAPPENED to cause the production of unicellular organisms, which JUST HAPPENED to evolve an uncountable number of times into monkeys, which evolved into humans?

Is it reasonable that this happened to ONE out of multiple HUNDREDS OF SEXTILLION planets? Yes the fk it is, even more than one would be reasonable.

Is it "reasonable" to you that an unimaginably small speck existed before everything else, a non-sentient speck that just spontaneously went BOOM?

Is it reasonable that somebody is too incompetent to read what I JUST said and comprehend that I do NOT believe that the big bang was the start of everything entirely?
YES IT IS.

Is the existence of a higher power, undetectable by human methods, SO inconceivable, SO blatantly illogical, SO lazily imaginative to you? Just wondering.

Is that for a power higher than space and time, above logic and science while EVERYTHING ELSE can in some way at least be guessed to have happened because of different reasons? YES.

"does that automatically prove the theory of evolution"

  • No, not at all. Evidence for evolution is found in fossils, or in the initial growth of an organism, even human.

"disprove the theory of the existence of a higher power?"

  • The existence of a higher power can neither be proven nor disproven.

There are many stars with many planets, it was bound to happen on one

And does that automatically prove the theory of evolution, and disprove the theory of the existence of a higher power?

We‘re talking about chances and likeliness here, not about total proof. I see that there‘s a possibility for a god to exist, but it‘s far below 10%. This is important so that you don‘t misinterpret what I said in the message above.

Did I say that? No. I asked YOU what seemed logical to you. Let me be clear, as a retired physicist I believe that the Big Bang kickstarted the (our) universe. I merely noted the probabilities that caused that chain of events, are astronomical. No pun intended.

That physical suffering was so terrible to them that they believed that the gods

...told them to suffer even more? Maybe people were really that crazy back then, but I doubt it.

The Big Three and Buddhism (if I remember correctly), told their believers to forego worldly pleasures. If they believed those were so great, would they not have made a reason to continue indulging in them (such as denying the existence of a higher power to hold them accountable)?

Did you not say plainly that "God isn't real"?

I hope you don't take offence at my words. I'm not looking for a fight, and indeed cherish a civilised discussion. :)

the existence of a higher power is not mutually exclusive with evolution. also @tpr you are bring very dismissive of everyone else' beliefs

@crusader5 never thought I‘d defend tpr...

„the existence of a higher power is not mutually exclusive with evolution. also @tpr you are bring very dismissive of everyone else' beliefs“

First of all, if anybody is dismissive of everyone else’s beliefs it‘s ME alright?
Aside from that: Yes, but the necessity of either evolution or a higher power for this universe to exist kills the other if one is right.

lol nah u are much less dismissive than him

no you are saying they are mutually exclusive

obviously evolution is true but that doesn't change my belief in God I'd say that there is a greater than 50% chance that some sort of higher power created the universe for multiple reasons, which I could debate if u wanted

If the universe developed in a totally logical way without a god, there‘s NO reason to believe in a god, is there? I don‘t think so.

"dismissive of everyone else' beliefs"

  • No, only of beliefs contradicting observed facts.

"existence of a higher power is not mutually exclusive with evolution"

  • No, they are not mutually exclusive. Georges Lemaître was a catholic priest. The Pope equated the Big Bang to the biblical fiat lux. Feynman embraced the idea that God somehow created the Laws of Physics and that everything else followed.
