The Candidates Tournament reminds me of a favorite holiday!

Why thank you, @morphyms1817 , but oddly enough I'm not IN the candidate's tournament.

Perhaps the mail misdelivered my invitation!

It's a shame, really. I recently bathed the dog and bought a new hoodie, too -- for me, not the spaniel.

It doesn't give me the obvious gravitas of a Fetterman, but I would have cut a fine figure, nevertheless!

And, just last night, I learned the ins-and-outs of the Three Pawns Gambit (Cunningham Variation) of the King's Gambit (for white) -- so no doubt I could create a "high quality" game.

That is, if, by "high quality," we mean funny and unexpected and ultimately humiliating for the gambiteer, yet again.

Are you the tall one standing up in the picture? I'm not the balding one, by the way. Or the guy with the overcoat. And no, I'm neither of the ladies, although any man would be pleased to call either of them una amiga.

Where are the chessboards, by the way?

Its obviously a gross oversight that your invitation was not transmitted. To think how we would be edified by your Spaniels appropriate hoodie a la Phil Laak!

Most unfortunate there will be no Three Pawns Gambit-Cunningham, King's Gambit or the formidable Hippo.

We can hope for next year!

Phil Laak... I'm not attaching the link here, but you can yt "High stakes poker best Phil Laak Moments"

Including Laak, his hoodie and commentary by Gabe Kaplan.

@morphyms1817 , the Hippo IS similar to poker!

Many use it to waste thousands of hours in the vain hope that things will somehow get better!

Yet, it has a strange allure.

And, slowly, patiently, one can get better at it -- though never quite good enough.
