Honestly I support Cristiano on this I feel like he deserves respect for everything he has achieved for Portugal and football. Of course everyone can have different opinions, but I don’t think his achievements should be overlooked. CR7

I see
I don't agree with him, the coach needs to pick the best 11, he should not pick a player who isn't among the best 11 just because they had a good career.
at best he could sub him in like in the 85th minute if they were winning 3-0 or something. but he should not expect to be in the starting 11.

Honestly I support Cristiano on this I feel li...
He doesn't deserve special rights when he's overaged and out of good performance. He's a full blown narcissist, his ego drove him to legendary status but now it's totally getting in his way. Messi showed how to resign as a legend

So, i really love Cristiano and i love him more than Messi, but it is fact that messi is much more talented and higher quality player Messi is a player that we will not see anytime soon but i love cristiano more because i really se him as legend and i just allways seen him as big inspiration.
Now. Messi is big player, but lets see for a moment portugal before and after cristiano:
before
All-time Top Scorer (Then): Pauleta (47 goals)
Most Caps (Then): Luís Figo (127 appearances)
Major Trophies: 0
Highest FIFA Ranking: 3rd (achieved briefly in 2001)
and after
All-time Top Scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo (146+ goals)
Most Caps: Cristiano Ronaldo (234+ appearances)
Major Trophies: 2 (UEFA Euro 2016, UEFA Nations League 2018/19)
Highest FIFA Ranking: 3rd (reached multiple times: 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018)
So, ronaldo in last years was never worse, but before 2022? Cristiano was saw as leader, he was main player, everyone respected him and now? Younger generations came and they no longer respect ronaldo even trough he deserves all respect. and it is just sad.
Messi had big ceremony, and ronaldo? not even thank you, nobody respects him no more and it is sad because he literally did everything for Portugal
I wanna hear yalls opinions! :)

It's not like there'øs a global rule for when you have to do a ceremony and whe not.
Portugal's national team can do what they want. They're in no way obliged to do the same ceremonies other countries or clubs did.

I am not talking abt ceremony only, but they overall direspect him

Honestly, I'm not a fan of these debates, but from the side of the team - I would let him play just for the hype, and the support from the Portuguese fans, and not only. I don't think changing the striker makes much difference to performance, but it definitely costs more off the field.

Messi showed how to resign as a legend
... By playing an exhibition match against a lower-ranked team, thereby maximizing his chances of being decisive. Of course, in the football médias, no one mentions that Benin managed to concede only three goals, including one penalty, against a World Cup finalist. That's quite an achievement for a team ranked by FIFA alongside the Football teams of Bulgaria, China, Belarus, and Thailand.
I think it's good for the health of football that Messi and Ronaldo have retired from theirs national teams. They both are amazing players, but the rivalry was just too much, and their behavior with their national teams wasn't exemplar (Ronaldo's recent departure from the team during a continental competition, Messi's fake retirement in 2016).
Dzeko showed up how to retire like a legend.
I hope Yamal and Mbappé won't be tempted to seek out a similar status with their national teams. Given how the Mbappé-Yamal dynamic is evolving now into a rivalry, I'm afraid it will be the case.
