licorice roots were used as wonderful tree brushes for many an aeon - as the substrate itself contains beneficial anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, the same could be said of a well crafted cedar brush, so actually - you may have purported an upgrade - as plastic is actually an idiotic substance as it creates tons of microplastics you then consume. I use boar bristle myself. ;)
