I am at a lost for finding the motivation to keep progressing. My ultimate goal was gonna to become a NM, and I promised myself to start playing OTB tournaments once I cross 2400 in either blitz or rapid on lichess. 2400, however, just seems way too far ahead, and I have a ton of other stuff going on in my life (starting college soon)... Giving up does not seem like the right thing to do, but chess has really lost some of its original appeal to me...

at least that will raise my standing in the lichess rankings, thank you, and don't forget to delete your account :). ... or just set it aside for a while.

Don't make chess your life. But do keep it around. To reach the rating you have is already a huge achievement. Try to find something you like to do and focus on that.

@SrcEngine If you do not plan to dedicate your life to chess then relax and just play for fun, without fun there is nothing. If you want to go further, then set shorter and more achievable goals and once you achieve them move on to the next one, do not aim for 2400 or you will see it very far, first try to reach 2200 and so on progressively. Don't wait to hit 2400 in lichess to be able to play OTB tournaments, just do it.
Leave it for a while and then come back with more enthusiasm.
If it is something secondary and you are not going to dedicate yourself to that, then Play random fischer chess, I only play that variant, since I find it much more fun and exciting, besides that by eliminating the openings you save a lot of time and for the same reason It is more practical and bearable to be able to do more things in everyday life.

2400 does seem like light years away , i think that's the problem with setting goals that are far away instead of focusing on slow steady improvement..some games are fun and tough others are tedious and hard .. If you no longer enjoy it then definitely stop playing, i took some years off before playing the game again and now quite enjoy myself even when i lose to people ... its a fine balance between art and a mess and the top tier players do it extremely well

Chess is like that narcissistic friend who is always there for you but secretly hates you

@SrcEngine you are wrong to some degree - I thought that too when I was your strength. The real fun begins at this level. You know what I experienced? I was so focused on attacks and openings that I completely forgot about all the other sides of chess like endgames and wonderful tactics or blindfold chess - there is still much to discover.
A break however and also focusing on other things is a good idea. However I think it would be cool if you would hold on on your initial dream and not give it up forever. Getting to a master title takes half a decade anyway - no need to rush it. 2400 indeed is a very high goal, make smaller steps. 2400 for me is my lifetime goal, I am glad reaching 2000 in OTB at all...
However good luck on your college stuff. I will also soon focus on other things than chess, but I will never quit it completely.

Let's understand this >>> You never played an OTB game yet ? Have you read anything about chess just for History or ancedotes etc ? College is fine ... Join the Chess Team . Unless you really don't love Chess

Yeah, it's amazing that you would wait so long to play OTB.
