hi, I happily play anonymous games often, or watch tournaments while not logged in. Why the sudden change to disable Opening Explorer / table base for anon?
The reason in the commit seems really odd, and why is DDoS even being mentioned in this context?!
The change greatly reduces usability.

You'd better do nothing about it?

requesting loads of moves from opening db creates lots of load to db obviously. So it good attack vector for sure. perhaps even used at some point.

It certainly was very recently ... this is why I was quoting the complaints in the forum (only the first page)
@icytease sorry, with hindsight, I think my post was a bit aggressive ...
When a service cannot cope with requests, the server has to take decisions (even if they are not popular)

So they... allowed automation of opening explorer, experienced ddos, then instead of removing that automation, just blocked some roles from its normal usage?

allowed automation of opening explorer
I'm not sure what you mean
Anyway, I can see a post is being written live in Lichess broadcast ... you'll have details soon

The explorer was also attacked outside the API, which also complicates matters.

Yes I meant having it in the application programming interface, which welcomes scripting/automation. Thanks for the link to their update reasoning!
@petri999 Yes, it seems expensive, that's why I was surprised it was opened up to be automated at all =/
sighs no more quick analysis after anon games I guess, mostly in the "did I f up the opening badly" vein
