Not too good at puzzles

I haven't done puzzles in a while -- just went 0 for 5 on the random puzzles and lost 152 puzzle points. Oh well.

You can turn off the global rating, and Lichess will still track rating on the thematic categories. Hence, for example, you can still use the spider graph to see areas that need improving. The result would be that you are not measuring performance by the single global puzzle rating number, but instead by the themes that need improvement.

Good idea, thanks!

I find Lichess puzzles a lot more difficult and computer like than any other puzzles ive done, chess tempo, chesscom or puzzle books even. Sometimes i discount a move because of the opponents tricky/stubborn reply which doesnt gift me anything immediately, only to see that the discounted move was correct but because my oppents tricky reply was -5 and the engine reply was -4.7, the engine plays the move which leads to a tactic when no bloody human would ever play it.

Doesnt happen all the time just an observation. Does anyone else experience anything like that?

I think a good tactic should be a sequence of critical or near critical moves, not ones where the top 3 replies have a 30 centipawn difference.

@userfriendly2 if you see such puzzles, please post them in feedback, so they get removed. a puzzle normally ends if there are too many good defenses for black that are equally good or if there are two winning continuations. there are some exceptions to the first scenario (e.g. both moves are interchangeable, but dont change the motif in the position). and yes, its not fair vs the damn computer, it always tries to make you look stupid and calculates everything :D

@userfriendly2 I think you're overreacting a little bit. I don't find the puzzles that computer like until you get into the upper reaches of difficulties. They're pretty straight forward and the only reason the other ones make more sense to you is probably because you've done those more. It's just a different style of thinking you need to get used to. I don't think the issue is the puzzle system.

Yeah I even remember thinking at the time that i should post this in feedback as its definitely another type of puzzle ive seen that should not be a puzzle given the very fine eval differences on opponents reply. I will do it next time.

@Amess923 Where is the overreaction? I'm not trying to be beligerant here, was just something I noticed in some puzzles that ive never noticed on other sites.
