Cheating through the roof

@N00801 said ^

pretty much mods can close this topic, as this leads to nowhere, it is just sensless discussion where there are clearly people who think all is legit and people who think they play cheaters often, no one knows the truth and all the arguing isnt going to lead anywhere anyway

Just to explain a little why I say I've not faced cheaters in a year, I've faced some but that was longer ago and they where banned.

Since than I either win my games or loose to opponents who make mistakes (as confirmed by SF) that I COULD have taken advantage of, but didn't.

As I've said it's just anecdotal, but it's at least as scientifically grounded as "a fishy feeling".

it's hard to fight cheating , Lichess wants proofs, or maybe don't have time to dissasemble cases along with innocent policity, that players should be accused for cheating so easily . Of course that in common allows many cheaters to remain hidden, alongside that their quantity can be big itslelf. can't say whenever something will change, but whatever, there is some fight with cheaters I believe

lichessorg does catch cheaters. Got a few messages that my ratings were refunded due to cheating. I did not report. Someone else may have.

@lonelypeanut
I come with the same anecdotal experience.
Considering my number of games, I may qualify for statistical.
I don't remember the last time I have been suspicious of facing a cheater.
My suspicion signals trigger when I don't understand my opponent's moves and I get outplayed (this method is fairly accurate at my modest level)

I would not claim cheaters don't exist, but I can say I am not being paired with them.

To be fair with the other platform, I don't remember having being paired with cheaters there either.

That is, unless I played tournaments ... this was another story (I have not tried that for a while)

Why doesnt Lichess ban cheaters? i faced more cheaters on here than any other chess site.

What do you think lichess enjoys having cheaters on the site or what?

Since we're all sharing anecdotes, here's mine. A couple of weeks ago I had a game with a brand new account (created that day). It had a rather obnoxious username. The game felt "funny" in a way that is hard to describe. I lost. When I looked at the engine I saw that I had made a lot of mistakes, didn't play well. My opponent had a strange game line with 0 inaccuracies, 0 mistakes but 3 blunders. Kind of like they used the engine except for 3 moves. I wasn't sure so I looked at a few of their other games and saw instances of very strange, un-human like moves. I decided to report the account - in my statement I said something like "I didn't play well, but keep an eye on this account - something felt strange about the game."

About 3 hours later I received the "someone you reported has been banned" message and it was that account.

I suspect it was someone who had been previously banned, and created a new account (the obnoxious username makes sense in that regard). So I would say lichess acted pretty quickly in this case even though the evidence, to my eyes at least, was questionable.

Make of it what you will...

Good One, it's hard to say whever that may always be in such good outcome, but hope it will be often enough

It had a rather obnoxious username.

An inappropriate username is enough to get an account banned (or is it closed? I don't recall).

it is what it is, just resign the fishy games, let the cheaters have their points, it changes nothing in grand scheme of things, it is however spiked a lot in last month, the overall level of fishyness has definitely went up, put there is nothing against it

I thought it was just me. So many opponents that have played hundreds of games over multiple years, yet they still have a provisional rating? Why do the moderators allow this?
