"... Black holds back his central pawns until White has displayed his structure, with the idea of hitting with the c-, d- or e-pawns when the moment is 'ripe'. Ripeness tends to be a difficult quality to identify, which means that Pirc positions require a certain degree of skill to handle -- if Black waits too long before committing his central pawns then he can be crushed. ..." - Understanding the Chess Openings (2005) by IM Sam Collins

@Sanjay-kurama Pirc or the modern defence are no "beginner's openings" because in hypermodern openings you start relatively passively, throw all the usual opening rules out the window and first have to establish balance.
So it's no wonder that “inexperienced” players have great difficulty here because they are essentially starting with a penalty.
However, to describe the opening as "trash" is, in my opinion, somewhat presumptuous. Feel free to look at my game history to see how you can play such an opening in a more "sensible" way.

It isn't a complete refutation. I studied this line and can affirm that if black takes 5...dxe5 black is objectively dead. However, if instead black went 5...Nfd7, white only would have a slight edge (+0.2). For example after 5...Nfd7, white's best try is 6.exd6 cxd6 7.Qd2 Nf6 8.Bh6 Bxh6 9.Qxh6 Qa5 and 10.0-0-0 and if played accurately, black is not worse.

Black should take 8...Bxe5, but even then it is not easy. Example:
that's how I believe this is a trash opening !!
Still, the Pirc/Modern seemed to work out okay for me in our game. :)

What about 9. ... Bd6 instead of 9. ... e6?
