So it's no wonder that “inexperienced” players have great difficulty here because they are essentially starting with a penalty.

However, to describe the opening as "trash" is, in my opinion, somewhat presumptuous. Feel free to look at my game history to see how you can play such an opening in a more "sensible" way.
