Tips for this Ruy Lopez line

I've been thinking about trying this Ruy Lopez line for black, and was wondering if anyone has had any success with it.

Yeah, Hikaru actually played it against Caruana last year. I know its a solid line, I'm just looking for some tips.

why wont you just play berlin or morphy? dont be scared of losing e5 pawn, if Bxc6 u go dxc6 and after nxe5 just qd4

Berlin and Morphy are both solid enough, but I don't like the continuations. If I castle short I run into f4, which is what I'm trying to prevent with Ng6.

I just got to play a game of this line, and I liked it a lot. I felt significantly more in control than other Ruy Lopez games I've played. I ended up losing on time but I'm happy with how I did.

Ok then if you are comfortbale playing it: why not? Continue to study it and analyze master games.
good luck

"And tips for white?"

  • In the above game Klimkowski - Aravindh white should have played 15 f6.

"If I castle short I run into f4, which is what I'm trying to prevent with Ng6."

  • That does not work: in the game Klimkowski - Aravindh white played 11 f4 just the same.

I play something like it (in the Steinitz Deferred)...Keres used to play it too.

If White isn't careful, Black can get a nice aggressive setup. But too often the knight on g6 isn't doing very much (and you end up trying to trade it off with Nh4).
