Any GO/Baduk Players here? Anyone interested in learning?

What's Go/Baduk? Can some1 tell me lol

It's the "surrounding game". Pieces are only of one type, no movement, so "simpler" than chess in that regard. But the board can be over 4 times the size of a 8x8 chess board, and a lot of complexity comes from that. So it is deceptively simple.

The goal is to obtain just a little more than your opponent, either by capturing enemy stones or surrounding areas of the board, but that's hard to explain in a single paragraph.

So yeah I am another go/baduk player, or used to be.

There are also other servers like Dragon Go Server (100% correspondence) or recently also PlayStrategy has it (although still ironing out some details as it is hosting hundreds of games and definitely avoid the bots there), and more.

@crankydragon @Alientcp I'm always up for a friendly challenge or correspondence I mostly hang around on OGS or PlayStrategy.

Man, it takes forever to find a game in OGS.

But Pandanet finds games very quick.

Yeah, fighting is not my thing.
Lost 3 big fights, as usual. But back then I learned how to be greedy, and usually ends up with me with a big chunk of territory and they forced to invade to avoid losing anyways.

The game decided often in if I managed to stop the invasion or limiting it. Which was the case again.

Guess Im not that out of touch after a decade or so of not playing.

The best not asian country in go is France (I know personally some of the best players playing for France)

Hey, come on. Dude has 82 thousand games played. I dont think I even make it to 20k games in chess in 25 ~years, let alone go, where I should have like 250-300 games only.

To be fair my personal experience in OGS is that for the longest time, it did appear nearly dead - in that it is tough to find a real-time game, especially if one is not willing to compromise on time settings, rank ranges, and so on.

But recently I discovered that there is so much activity on the server: there are so many correspondence tournaments, and possibly also ladders, going on.

I think the way the homepage is currently designed does not give justice to the very large number of active running tournaments, in favour of spotlighting a few select features (some of which not so popular!) such as the infamous "open challenge graph" (time settings vs rank difference), the host of "play against/review with AI" options, and so on.
