odd feeling, when seeing games you loved as a kid, to be completly dead.

I'm a dedicated player of https://stug.io, and I'm watching it die in real time :sob:

that's because the planet got flooded with anyone being able to issue a computer game

of course there's then too many of them for all of them to survive

population dynamics of virtual "agents"

or simply law of free market

one can tell in advance

If you think the "Wii" was "old school,"

I suspect that @NeuralGnat and I know better.

The Commodore 64 draws the line.

I've reenacted Civil War battles on the computer, in careful detail, long before Microsoft dared to show its head.

Word.

Amend: go back, even further than that. Avalon Hill.

Word squared.

C64 was the time when you were able to start right away to build your own stuff.
As a gen y kid the first thing I started gaming with was literal books from my local library and MS DOS QBASIC.
I am pretty happy to know natively what a "listing" is despite having missed the C64 era.

I mean I was already a full-grown adult in my 20s when Roblox launched so I have never played it.

What I've heard of it, it sounded like a dumpster fire.

See, I'm a millennial, when I was a kid we didn't have as many games that are online and all that. Also I've seen plenty of series go from popular to irrelevant. Guitar Hero. Tony Hawk. Sims if you're someone who never moved to Sims 4, sure there are still communities for Sims 2 and Sims 3 but Sims 4 is pretty much a straight-up cash grab at this point.

I know you had this bad boy

Actually I didn't. Knew of them but I don't think I had any. Wait. I DID have a mini one or something I think.

I like him. But great-great grandfather was known for shouting to wake the neighbours up. I am

Is it weird that I'm not old enough to have been in a house with a Commodore 64 at any point in my life, yet I've got my Tactics II board set up at this very moment?

Me, I've gotten over it. By now, it doesn't feel odd anymore that nobody plays Pong.

At least there is a song in Pong's honour!
Frank Black - Whatever Happened to Pong?

"My brother and me used to play it down at the bar
Taking money from guys more used to the playing of cards

And they paddle the paddle to the side to the side
To the side to the side to the paddle the paddle
The paddle the paddle to the side to the side
Pong
Ball in the machine

Now virtually everyone's singing a popular song
Yeah, but I still believe in the excellent joy of the Pong

To the side to the side to the paddle the paddle
The paddle the paddle to side to the side
To the side to the side to the paddle the paddle
Pong
Ball in the machine

Now if they take it H. G. Wells
Well, I'll be on the first flight
To a time before we followed the Kong
Whatever happened to Pong?

To paddle the paddle to the side to the side
To the side to the side to the paddle the paddle
The Paddle the paddle to side to the side
Pong
Ball in the machine"

ahh roblox, minecraft, and fortnite - the only games that exist for kids these days that are all older than the kids who play them lol - BACK IN MAH DAY....

See I didn't always mind old games - I remember playing Zelda on my dad's NES (one of the few cool things about my dad, we did not get along generally.) when I was 10-11.

Dunno if kids now will still play whatever is "retro." I'm sure some will.

I played tons of NES growing up and I still play them, all I'm saying really is to expand ones horizons ;)

I play the modern Zelda games. I think Zelda is a retro game although there released some new Zelda games Like botw or totk.
And i play sometimes original Mario world, a link to the past etc in the nes version of the switch.
