Horde Chess - How to approach strategy in Horde

My enjoyment of this variant is also rather asymmetrical. It is fun to play with black pieces, picking up all the pawns. But with white, it is not so great: not only there is a moment where you start losing the pawns en masse, but also a single bad pawn move can totally wreck your position and winning chances. Black is so much easier to play, and blunder-resilient (you can still blunder, but it is much less likely to be a move that immediately loses the game).

I wonder if this changes if you get very good at the game. Or does it still feel like that even at the top level?

@AtoAto1 - stay tune for part 2. It is easier to play for white, and generally Black wins more often than white, but think there is greater pleasure in winning with White, the pawns.
One way to improve with White, is just copy the strategy of players who beat you. But like I put in article, just be careful to not let Black sacrifice multiple times on the same file to open it, keep slowly and carefully pushing the pawns, trade of the Black pawns, then force sacrifices of the Black pieces and Queen.
Stick with it, enjoy, blessings!

tnx! Interesting comparison with Breakout, I often like to think whether chess variants can be understood as cyber sports and martial arts

@CrazyMaharajah often finding a mental parallel to work with, helps grasp the game, and form a template for plans and strategy, similar to 'reincarnation' for Crazy House.
