No. People who have time would win Arenas.
Either a Grand Prix or a Single Elim would be good.

But Grand Prix has the same idea. if someone plays more events, he wins it.
2-hour tournaments with 3+0 time control would be ok(but without berserk button). players have to win only one arena tournament for select to final 32.
No. Grand Prix Consists of multiple single elimination tournaments ALL PLAYED BY SAME PEOPLE HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF FIDE GP !?
With a large number of participants, it's difficult to have such event. isn't it? @savagechess2k
Atomic GP Group A; Atomic GP Group B, etc etc. Example: best 8 participants in Group A, 9 to 16 Group B etc.
Thanks for the responses guys. I think the most likely at the moment is a double elim. It allows people with less free time to take part and gives everyone a second chance.
@TheFinnisher thanks for your offer re advertising. I've considered ideas involving all play all groups, but they are more difficult to organise, especially if done as the first stage in the tournament. From experience some players sign up but then lose interest/become unresponsive. The KO system eliminates these players much faster. A group stage works better the way Fischy did it last year, having such a stage later in the event where the remaining players are a bit more serious. Even so it can have the same problems sometimes and I'd rather avoid it.
@savagechess2k I'm still not sure I understand what you mean by an Atomic Grand Prix. Are you suggesting single elim KOs (like the AWC) to be run continually throughout the year?
@tipau Yes. If there are many players, the players may be separated into groups of 8 (not randomly. Highest rated 8 in group A, 9 to 16 group b etc) and a single elim KO will be run continually throughout the year in each group.
Yes. You understood me right.
@savagechess2k an ambitious idea but I think it's too complicated and time consuming. Most people don't like events that are spread out over such a long period of time and players will drop out half way through. At any rate, I don't want to organise a tournament along those lines as it would place a constant demand on my time.
Ok.
