A three-way fight for the two promotion spots went right to the wire in this exciting and competitive group.
Ultimately, @Don_Tonio's triumph with black over @Krystophyr in the final game to finish saw him claim second spot, meaning @Sir_Sly agonisingly missed out on promotion by a single point - despite hitting the 13-point (6.5/9) mark that is usually enough for a top two spot.
The group was won by @Vodka-For-All, who started strongly with four straight wins and finished unbeaten, including a pivotal win with the black pieces over fellow challenger and long-time leader @Don_Tonio (who himself started the season with five wins) in round seven. Congratulations @Vodka-For-All!
In midtable, @Schachwikinger had a strong season after being reshuffled into the fourth tier following a league reorganisation, finishing a competitive fourth with five games. A special mention also for @CelestineProphet, who fought back from losing his first four games to haul himself clear of relegation danger in the final month of the season, eventually recording a top half finish.
It was a titanic struggle for survival at the bottom, as @CelestineProphet, @QueenRosieMary, @Krystophyr and @mariuszmitoraj all just about did enough to keep their heads above water. This meant @TahoeRed was unfortunately relegated along with the withdrawn @MrKeanu, while unfortunately we also lose @Krystophyr who has chosen not to compete in Season 12.
A third group will be introduced at this level for Season 12 - while this brings fresh opportunities it also means three players will be relegated from each pool. The intense competition just got even more intense!
Final table:
- Vodka-For-All P9 Pts 16 (C)
2.Don_Tonio P9 Pts 14 (P)
- Sir_Sly P9 Pts 13
- Schachwikinger P9 Pts 11
- Celestine Prophet P9 Pts 9
- QueenRosieMary P9 Pts 8
- Krystophyr P9 Pts 7
- mariuszmitoraj P9 Pts 6
- TahoeRed P9 Pts 4 (R)
- Mr Keanu P9 Pts 2 (R - withdrawn)
Thanks to everyone for playing and best of luck in Season 12 or wherever you play your chess. We hope to see those leaving back soon!
