But...it's official! https://sites.google.com/site/crazyhouseworldchampionship/calendar/candidates
I say that because you covered so many matches that were at really bad times for you!
"- 2 candidates will qualify for the WCC (chosen by highest # of match wins)"
That means that draws don't count. I was surprised no one raised any objections; perhaps no one noticed this? You guys all agree, right?
Thanks for raising this important query FischyVishy,
My understanding was that the main point of this rule was to provide distinction between counting the individual results of 7 matches, instead of the total number of game wins out of the possible 70 games. All players agreed that the individual matches were of primary importance first, where the number of total games would only play a secondary role as a tiebreak if required.
It now seems that "# of match wins" has a literal interpretation, but I expect a number of us were expecting a tied match would yield the reward of half a point.
There are multiple logical arguments for this, but one of the simplest is that a player in this field who scores 7 results of 5-5 ties has shown considerable resistance and should be rewarded a greater standing in the event than a player who scores 7 results of 10-0 losses.
My point of view has remain unchanged since the beginning, but I'm aware this could be perceived as biased given blitzbullet and I recently tied a match! Given the late circumstances of our match, I'd feel even worse for blitzbullet if he walked away empty handed after such outstanding play.
So it would be good to hear from more opinions from the community and other players. I understand that crosky has already stated the expectation of a half point being awarded for a tied match at 5-5.
I agree with Jann. My two cents as a non-player is that it would be very strange if a drawn match was equivalent to a loss for both players. Maybe the wording should be tweaked to '# of match points' rather than '# of match wins'?
The number of match wins feels more like a possible tie-breaker than the primary scoring system, even then probably a second tie-breaker after number of game points (again game points, rather than games won, although in zh it's likely to be the same thing)
As a spectator I think that discarding the draw matches in a round-robin event would be highly unexpected, disappointing and unfair!
I just interpreted this rule as such because everyone agreed on "# of match wins." Maybe there aren't enough lawyers at the top of the zh hierarchy :P.
Anyway, Jann and I discussed this and draws DO count. It wouldn't make sense otherwise, I agree!
It totally makes sense!
Maybe best to officially change the rules?
This would also be useful to have in place when copying them for next year :-)
@HighContrast What makes sense? Are you proposing that draws shouldn't count?
Draws should count.
