Hiatus

Due to blitzbullet's busy schedule and other players not being able to commit in time, it looks like the CWC will be taking an indefinite hiatus until the Candidates matches are completed.

Please stay positive! The CWC will be completed as intended and we will have a 6-hour long 30 secs zh tournament after the last TT - (JL/bb) match. There will also be a fun zh event in the summer so do not fret!

It's your choice and I respect that, but to me this is rubbish. Blitzbullet is not going to qualify for the championship. He has to win all three of his matches by a combined score of 26-4 to beat JannLee, or by 25-5 to tie him. His record so far is 18-22, he's the lowest seed, and he has a match against a player who hasn't lost a match yet. It's mathematically possible for him to qualify, but it realistically will not happen, and it's annoying that he's making JannLee and Twelveteen wait just because it's "possible." chickencrossroad did the honorable thing; blitzbullet should either follow his lead or play some matches. He's online frequently; he still plays frequently. It's not like he has no time at all. Maybe he doesn't have time to play enough to not be rusty, but he should suck it up and play his matches anyway. JannLee got really busy also, and got out of good crazyhouse shape, but he still played his matches. He lost one match and drew another one (against blitzbullet) that he might not have otherwise; if he hadn't played through his work like blitzbullet is now refusing to do he might have scored well enough to make it impossible for blitzbullet to qualify. So, I hope blitzbullet does the sportsmanlike thing and either plays his matches even though he's rusty, or withdraws.

@subconscious dude its college finals week, there is like no time at all

@Deathmaster I'm not complaining that he's not playing during finals week! But FischyVishy said "indefinite hiatus," not "until finals are over." The wording suggests a long hiatus. If it's going to be months until he can play or something like that I think he should withdraw.

@subconscious An indefinite hiatus means exactly that: it's indefinite. If this isn't resolved within three weeks, though, I will intervene, but I must give him a period of two weeks for finals and a period of one week for post-finals relaxation; I hope @JannLee can weigh in because I asked for his opinion since he's the entrant most involved in this debacle.

Also there will be better measures in the future, but I can't just flip a switch ATM because things got a bit hectic.

Thanks FischyVishy, I actually feel that all candidates have the right to contribute their say here: @allyouneedisluft @TwelveTeen @mastertan @opperwezen @xuanet @eekarf @blitzbullet

I think it's great that the CWC has progressed to this point so far. This is an unprecedented format matched by a high level of sustained competitiveness that's raised the profile of the game. This has clearly sparked the crazyhouse community's interest, with the demand to see further progression of the event to conclude the candidates round and proceed to the final.

On behalf of the players, I'd like to first thank the community for their support and secondly request a little more patience to allow the candidates to finish their remaining games on their terms. Among the time zone challenges, life circumstances have also brought on a number of delays from various players to date. Exam periods for more than one player are currently influencing a break in games.

The spotlight has been unfairly cast on blitzbullet due to his standing in the event, but in my eyes, there's still 5 out of 8 players that have at least one match to complete. All candidates have actively participated to date, so I'd like to think that these last matches will be completed once adequate time becomes available to them again.

During this break in games, I'll be attempting to bridge the gap by producing a few more analysis videos to cover the matches that have not yet had exposure to streamer commentary.

Best wishes to the candidates in their remaining matches!

Cheers,
Jann

@subconscious is absolutely right. Chickencrossroad couldnt play , so he withdrew. This is the correct way.
As for Jann , what can I say? He is the guy who made so many people play Crazyhouse. As simple as that. During his last match with TT there were over 100 spectators on the site and many more in the channels...
Crazyhouse is the only variant with such a strong community. My own favourite , Racing Kings , is in a deplorable condition...

Rules is rules...everything was agreed at the start, and chopping and changing halfway through would be farcical. BB earned his place and telling him to withdraw would be like telling a captain when to give the order to abandon ship. Of course, as the architect of the whole thing Fischy has the prerogative power to intervene, but he should not be pressured to do so, by the same logic. 'All things to those who wait' is a good maxim by which to play chess/crazyhouse IMHO.

@JannLee I admire your sportsmanship; it's honestly wonderful to see someone of your caliber be as humble and respectful of other competitors as you are. I still can't agree on the "5 out of 8 still have games to play," though. 1 of those 5 is blitzbullet; 2 others out of the 5 are players who have no matches left besides their match with blitzbullet. There is only 1 match remaining in the entire candidates tournament that doesn't involve blitzbullet. No, other competitors are not holding the event up.

That said, I feel like FischyVishy's proposed solution of a 3 week hiatus to get blitzbullet through finals is a good one. What prompted my first response was the wording "indefinite hiatus." I don't agree with delaying the candidates tournament indefinitely, but 3 weeks is "definite," it's not horribly long, and if JannLee doesn't have a problem with it I don't think the rest of us should. He's the main one affected by it.
