Hi, @C-Bear !

What is your exact use case? What do you do with the PGNs?

copied from the lichess fedback forum:

As a tournament organizer for my local club I have the task to publish all games to the players with their notation. I do this in dutch because that is the language at my local club. When i get a copy of the notation forms i get them in dutch notation. I run through the games either on this site (or somewhere else). The problem is that, given the language here is english notation for the pieces, and my published notation is dutch that i have to manually transpose all the piece designations from _RNBKQ to _TPLKD.

I noticed in the preferences the subject "piece notation in PGN". What i would like is to be able to change the letters in that sequence. That way when i run through the games I will have my notation in the correct language. Is this possible to create in lichess?

@C-Bear , yes, I've read the forum topic. What do you mean by "publish" ? Is it a magazine, a blog, some other thing?

As a first idea, in LiChess Tools there is a command called /copypgn which has a "unicode" parameter. If you use it, you get a PGN, but with chess pieces characters instead of letters.

You can use that to publish the PGN text, and then it's really universal. Or you can replace the characters with the Dutch letters. Or I can add a "dutch" parameter so it exports directly in the format you want.

However, if your goal is to produce something that gets printed or displayed, we can work on something that does that, complete with board diagrams and other stuff. That's why I am asking the specifics of your scenario.

We publish the results without moves on our site and mail the games with moves to the participants. At the end of the tournament a tournament book will be available for the participants with all the moves. You can make a dutch and then a french and then a german and the swahili and this goes on and on. Wouldn't it be better to just change the capital letters in the pgn with a set thee user can choose so _RNBQK would be _TPLDK in my setup and somebody else can choose their own set to replace it. Than it's universal.

I can do that. It makes sense. Is /copypgn the right solution for you? Have you tried it?

lol. Just type /copypgn unicode (or go to the magnifying glass icon in the header and type it there if it doesn't work as you type / ) in any analysis or study page and it will copy the PGN in the clipboard. See if this is what you wanted and I will change the extension to support something like a string of letters preceded by an underscore instead of "unicode" later.
