Hi, long time Lichess Tools user here. It's incredible.
However, I recently noticed that my studies start lagging out when I turn on Stockfish. My studies are filled to the brim with opening variations (I have hit the maximum line limit multiple times) so I tested it with basic studies (like 50 move games, no annotations, no alternate moves). What I noticed is that 1) it only lags when I turn on Stockfish, and 2) it doesn't lag when I turn off Lichess Tools, so it's probably an extension issue.
Another person made a forum post on the main Lichess one: https://lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/studies-lagging, so it's not just me. If necessary I can say the settings I have turned on.
Would hope this can get resolved soon so I can get back to studying, lol
Another bug I noticed: When right-clicking (ie. going to the next move), Lichess isn't automatically changing the movelist display to go to the next move. I don't think I'm explaining it well but hopefully you know what I'm saying
Running Stockfish updates the screen a lot of times. At each update a lot of the LiChess Tools tools are doing things, which in the case of very large studies, may become a problem. Most highlighting features, for example, which have to look at every one of the 3000 moves in the study, are causing lag.
I am going to investigate and also I plan a feature to detect lagging and restrict some functionality.
Thanks for the report, @Best8meme !
@Best8meme , there are several aspects of the lag when engine is on
- the engine running is calling a redraw of the analysis page, thus triggering all kinds of LiChess Tools functionality. I tried to defer that functionality as much as reasonable to do, but it's will still cause some lag. Try to disable everything related to highlighting moves if you don't use that functionality. Also "More decimals for computer evaluation" is adding to the lag. Disable it if you don't use it.
- Lichess added some functionality to the chat which is really slow. I recommend you use the Toggle study chat theme

then turn the chat off in study - there was a bug that I had introduced when trying - ironically - to improve performance. Now it should be better.
Please see if the version 2.4.38 fixes your problems in an acceptable way.
