1st Barcelona International Bughouse Open

The first Barcelona International Bughouse Open will take place on September 1, 2023. The tournament has a sizable prize fund of at least €1000 and we hope this tournament will kickstart bughouse events in Europe and the world!

Bughouse fans are encouraged to come to the playing venue and watch the event!

Start time: 5:00 PM

Estimated tournament completion time: 11:00 PM

Format

Swiss: 7 rounds, 4 games each round (2 White, then 2 Black)

Knockouts: 4 teams advance
Semi-finals: 8-game match, first to 5.
Finals: 14-game match

Tiebreak rules

Swiss: Direct encounter, Buchholz, 2-game match if necessary (until one team wins by 2 games)

Knockout: 2 extra games until the tie is broken

Entry Fee

€20. 80% of the entry fee will go toward the prize fund, the rest going toward the organization of the event (arbiters, logistics, trophies and medals, etc.).

Prizes

€1000 in prizes guaranteed! The prize fund will increase as the number of participants increases!

First place: 30% of the prize fund + Trophy
Second place: 20% of the prize fund + Medal
Third place: 15% of the prize fund + Medal
Fourth place: 10% of the prize fund
Fifth place: 5% of the prize fund (first to not qualify from the Swiss)
Best female: 5% of the prize fund
Lottery prize: 5% of the prize fund
Best U20: 5% of the prize fund
Best senior: 5% of the prize fund

No prizes can be stacked. No prizes can be shared.
