OK, I've added a list of games that are currently waiting for players to the main page. So you can find a game right there.
(Personally I still believe it's fun to be in a voice channel together, but that's up to you)
When I sign in I see a really weird display of headers that fill the whole screen, I do not understand what it is meant to be. Then I create a new game, see nothing. I leave the game, and now I understand what the display was, as the texts turn into headers and the game I just created and left is listed below it as unavailable. If there is no game currently waiting for players, it would be helpful to list that instead of the weirdness.

I've added a message saying that there are no active games. I didn't quite grasp the rest of you comment, sorry. Could you dm me and explain in a bit more detail?

I've added the list of active games to the main page. So you can find a game there and play without Discord now. The problem is, we don't have a lot of players yet, so at any given moment there might not be enough players online. If you don't want to use Discord, then we need to find some other way to make sure there are enough players simultaneously on the server. Maybe announce a date and time in advance on this forum or something like this.

Yep, works now desktop too. But I am unsure about which games are listed, as I have never seen any except ones I have created myself. Is it only games looking for players, or also ongoing games? If you showed those it would be nice to be able to spectate, especially if you are new to bughouse.
What does the dice symbol mean when you join a match? There is no tooltip on hover or other explanation. My guess is that it means Random/red team/blue team/spectator, but it is not clear.
Have you considered adding an ai player? Not ideal in any way, but at least to try the site, or as a new player making sure you can play even if you are not a group of exactly 4.

I agree. At the moment we hide ongoing matches because I haven’t figured out privacy controls yet. Currently if you join an ongoing game (which you can do if you have the code), you join as a spectator, but you can also become a player if you’d like. If you do, and the match now has five players or more, then four players are chosen at random to participate in each game, and the others spectate. This could be quite convenient, but it also might not be what you want when you come to play with friends. So yeah, I need to figure out what clear and convenient privacy settings look like, add them, and then we can show ongoing matches.

Your guess is right, but I agree that a tooltip would help. I’ll add one.

Yes, I want to add an engine both for playing and for analyzing, but this will take some time.
Meanwhile if you have just 2 or 3 players, you can create a game where somebody controls both boards. This is fully supported and should work just fine technically. Of course, this is not how bughouse is meant to be played, but that’s kind of fun in its own way, so that’s another way to try out the site. You could DM me in Lichess or Discord if you want to try this, I’m often ready to play.

I have often played bughouse OTB as 1 against 2 or even 1 against 3. Sometimes 1:3 makes for a more interesting game against beginners, and kids tend to love sitting in the middle with tons of pieces. I did not see anywhere that controlling 2 boards was a possibility, cool!
Yeah, it is tricky, a checkbox for opting in to showing games publicly for spectating only might be easiest, but people coming in that route should not go to the same url and should not be able to play. Might not be worth implementing.
