Update on the 2022 RK1440 OC!
The overall format is set in stone and will not change. Read below for the quick details. Full rules and registration forum will be made within the next couple of days so stay tuned!
---THE TOURNAMENT FORMAT---
This tournament will be a two-stage tournament with the first stage being a single round of random pairings and the second stage being a single elimination bracket. The first stage will have all players randomly paired to play a match to determine their seeding in the single elimination bracket. The winners of each pair will be seeded as the top half of the seeds and the losers of each pair will be the lower half of the seeds. Each half will then be ranked by their tournament rating (the average between peak racing kings rating and racing kings rating at the start of the tournament).
--THE MATCH FORMAT--
Each match leading up to the final will be 6 games of 3 + 2 Racing Kings 1440. The 6 games will have each player play as black and white of 3 random positions. All games are to be played on CVT (https://chessvariants.training/Variant960). A tutorial video of how to send and accept challenges as well as the overall look of the game and site will be provided. The final match will be 10 games in 5 positions.
--PRIZES--
Currently, there are no tangible prizes or prize funds. A virtual trophy will have the winner's name place on it and the imgur link to such image will be provided to the winner. That image will also remain on the 2022 RK1440 OC once the winner is decided. As for other prizes, there will be flower rewards (In The House Discord Server) based on performance in the tournament. Later details are to come out on that topic within the discord server itself. This is solely meant to encourage those in the discord server to play, not to encourage those outside the discord server to join, but feel free to if you wish to do so.
--IMPORTANT DATES--
Registration will open up some date between February 23rd and February 28th presumably around either 4 UTC or 16 UTC. The registration period will last about two weeks ending as early as March 7th and as late as March 14th. The tournament will start as soon as the registration period ends. The pairings of the first round will be released shortly after the registration period ends. A video will be provided to show that the pairings were decided entirely randomly. With an expected amount of between 16 and 32 registrants, the tournament will last 6 weeks ending some time in mid-April!
--HELP IS STILL APPRECIATED--
If you would like to help in any fashion please message @Positions1440! This includes but is not limited to helping direct the tournament, helping players understand the rules, helping players sign up and use CVT, providing prizes, spreading word of the tournament, creating studies for the games played on CVT so they're available on lichess, streaming commentary for the matches, and giving any suggestions for the tournament!
