Announcing the 2021 RK1440 Open Championship

Hello Everyone!

With the RK Bullet Championship coming to an end, another tournament is to pick up shortly after its ending! This tournament is similar to the RKWC except will be run through https://chessvariants.training/Variant960 (CVT) so that we can play Racing Kings 1440, the Chess 960 version of Racing Kings! This is NOT the registration. This is just the public overview and announcement of it!

Here is the gist of the tournament:

Players will sign up that meet the requirements mentioned in the rules (mainly to prevent any suspected cheaters or multiple accounts) starting December 7th through January 1st. The players will need to have an account on lichess and CVT and provide links to both.

The accepted players will then be seeded based on the average between their highest rating in RK and their current rating. They will be paired accordingly and have a week to schedule and play a 3 pair of games series (may shorten due to early win or lengthen due to tie). The 3 pairs of games will be based on the 3 positions announced in a future forum (more details will come up when the registration comes out). The series will be decided based on the winners of the positions. For example, if you win the pair of games for the first position given, you would receive 1 point for the series (a max of 3 for the series).

The tournament is single elimination for all rounds preceding the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals forward, the tournament will be double-elimination. The final series will be 10 games length (5 pairs of games for 5 positions).

All games will be played on CVT and all links to games for the series must be provided to me for review and reporting.
Match time negotiations would be better done outside of CVT though as their messaging/communicating abilities are severely limited.
