Discussion of smart sounding culture stuff

A little known fact: TCM, in addition to standing for Team clousems, is also an acronym for Turner Classic Movies.
In an effort to try and steal all 3 viewers of TCM (Turner Classic Movies), I hereby start a thread where we can discuss all sorts of pretentious cultural stuff that nobody actually cares about. Examples of acceptable discussion:

Czerny vs Clementi: which was the better pianist?
Why does anyone think that Virgil was a good poet?
Was Les Miserables a better musical or novel?
Is Vargtimmen a better example of surrealist cinema than Mulholland Drive?
Dutch Renaissance paintings or Italian Renaissance paintings?

@clousems Clementi's sonatas are great, Czerny was more of a teacher.

To be fair, I do seem to have an irrational affection for Czech composers like Czerny, Dvorak, and Smetana.
