As you know, I was elected President of the IAF in December of last year. Since that time, I have received a fair amount of input from various third parties regarding the setup and management of the IAF. Pursuant to Section 2 of the IAF Charter, the IAF mission is to promote antichess globally and to ensure it is made available to as many players as possible.
One aspect of spreading and growing the game is the viability and respectability of the IAF itself. It has been brought to my attention that there are certain aspects of the IAF that are seen as amateur or unprofessional - especially when looking through the lens of other international federations.
In order to increase the efficiency of the IAF, I think we need to setup the management of the IAF in a manner that is more in keeping with the IAF charter.
Therefore, pursuant to Section 8.5 of the IAF Charter, I am announcing that there will be an election held July 24-31 for the IAF Council. We currently have a steering committee that was appointed by the outgoing President. However, the IAF charter calls for an IAF Council and as President I have determined that the Council will consist of 7 IAF members who are elected by the IAF General Assembly (pursuant to the IAF charter).
Further, I have determined that members of the Council must be at least 18 years of age. I realize that many players are not 18 years of age and would like to participate. Once the IAF Council is elected I intend to have the Council create a youth council for anyone under 18 to participate and provide input for consideration by the Council.
If you would like to be considered for the IAF Council election, then please post in this thread.
