I guess it was only a possible approach that was mentioned for players who still want to try the french defense

Even with the line and approach that I have away, the french remains unplayable to stay in accord with the title.

It was explained pretty accurately in the video.

French is playable only if black knows like all the correct ideas. The main line that gives black troubles is with 3. Nc3 because then white gets the big pawn center and black kind of struggles there while white gets a free attack. (Winawer is not that good if white knows a3 b4 and if black trades on c3 he loses almost all of the queenside attack, dxe4 Nxe4 Nd7 is the most playable but white has way more space and activity, like black played a bad caro-kann.) However, when played against us lame humans white sometimes will mess up. It is either a blowout defeat for black or white allows black the counterplay and it still will be probably equal due to white's kingside attack. A similar parallel is that french is just a better KIA for white as black doesn't get quite a fast queenside attack and gets rolled on the kingside.

Still, the french is popular due to the intuitive plans (get rid of the bad bishop) and fun sacrifices of the rook on f3/f4 in some lines. Again, since we are only humans we don't know the best moves and might collapse. Every single time I have seen a lower rated play the french against a higher rated opponent it was a blowout victory for the white pieces, black didn't even stand a chance. It is just popular as a noobkiller since lower rateds don't really know the correct plans but sometimes they do and it would be a tough struggle.

The french is fine. The fact you should or shouldn't play it depends on your style, taste, time you want to allow to opening preps... It's subjective. Yes black has problems to solve here and there, white also has things to prove there and here. Nothing unusual.

The first example in the video shows a line known as dubious for black. Computers are forced to play those so they don't spam drawish defenses every games. The second example shows a very weird and rare (and not very sound) concept with white playing a4 that early and eventually winning the game. You can find such games after 1...e5 and 1...c5 as well.
