I Hate Winning

Lots of strange blogs all the time. Nothing to say? Then don’t post it on internet.

There are lots of great chess books.

There is another completely different aspect, though perhaps I'm unique in feeling this way. I like to win, but sometimes seeing the hurt and disappointment of the loser outweighs the joy I get from winning. So I sometimes literally dislike winning.

"In sports, Forbid empathy. Empathy is weakness. Weakness is vulnerability."

If you hate winning, then why can't you just try to lose?

We're going to win so much, you may even get tired of winning.

I am empathetic and vulnerable. I'll never be a sports (or chess) champion.

I rarely win so I almost never have this problem

Here's a couple other thoughts about the possible downsides of winning:

-someone has to lose, for me to win
-i can't learn from this (this is untrue, simply ask where your opponent went wrong)

So this is, like, awful.

Let's go backwards. Vulnerability is not weakness. Weakness is not empathy.

Furthermore, there's nothing wrong with empathy in sports, not even from a competitive perspective. In fact, empathy may really help you win. Figuring out your opponent's drives is, in itself, an act of mental empathy. Where in their position are they deriving a sense of security from?, for example.

Furthermore, and here I'd like to reply more to @Foolacious , empathy doesn't have to take away your drive to win. Empathize with the fact your opponent wants you to play your best. They don't want to win because you willingly made bad moves. Your victory proves you gave it your all; without giving it your all, they lack the opportunity to grow as players.

Hate winning?

To me winning in chess is like being Dr. Fauci and forcing you to inject the stuff you don't want to.. although is not as bad as it sounds because chess is just a game after all.
