Indeed you are right if we are discussing the FIDE World Chess Championship. At the time Ponomariov won his title, there where two different world championship titles. But this does not reduce in the least Ponomariov's accomplishment!

In any case, Gukesh has also done an amazing thing. Especially if one reflects on the road he took to come here and then win.

Yes! Gukesh is also a FIDE World Chess Champion. FIDE is the only federation that we all recognize since many decades.

I'm an Indian too! I was cheering for Gukesh the whole time! I heard his childhood dream of wanting to be the World Chess Champion. So, I wanted him to win! He worked hard and achived his dream! Good job, Gukesh!

Congrats to Gukesh for being the youngest World Champion ever. It was a really exciting battle and in the ende, a single blunder decided. They both played really good and you often forget that there is so much pressure if you have already played 13 games and its 6,5:6,5 and then there is a single game which decides the outgoing. CONGRATS TO BOTH OF THEM!!!

It's really bad to see Ding ended his WCC in this way...Nowadays with the help of the engine, it seems has became much easier to criticize these pros but I do agree that the blunder that Ding made at the last moment was a shock...It's hard to truly consider everything in their views as I believe their pressure especially for Ding, is unbearable, at least I cannot handle the pressure for sure... During the conference Ding looked quite peaceful... I am really worried Ding falls into the similar negative and passive psychological status like the time after his match with Nepo last year... Hope I could see Ding returns with his best shape in the future.
WHAT A WCC this year!

Gukesh’s reaction when he realised he was winning was heartwarming. He totally deserved it
Well done to Ding too- he played well
