Berserk ! It's a question of honor

@InnateAluminum @MartialCultivatorMC @Toscani not to troll you. But just to discuss my new berserk experience. I was playing in a tournament where all top 5 players had 100 % berserkrate wich obviously indicates that strong players go berserk and weak players join a tournament not to win but to chick around :)

Yes, that's the point of berserk. If you are clearly a stronger opponent then it is pretty safe to play an odds game and get extra points.

Weak players join to play too, you know. And have fun enjoying the game of chess.

Isn't it a bit unfair how any player can just choose to get extra points if they win, though? What if the opponent doesn't want an odds game?

I think berserk is silly if both take it. By pushingbersertk on makes claim I can win you on half time. Obviously gentlleman must be given a chance.

Though the whole feature is weird. But then again internet chess is weird in many ways

It fits to bullet, they both go well together.

Do you know that it was invented as "bullshit" originally, but over the time the label became abbreviated to "bullet".

Berserk is a choice to make, if the other guy doesn't want it or is not as fast why would he ever berserk back lol This sounds like a crying from someone who berserks, gets advantage, but then loses on time and blames the other guy who wanted to think a bit on his moves instead of playing intuition mode. You berserk - you risk, but instead if you manage to win you get extra points to win tournament. Other guys perhaps just want to keep streak, which is also good strategy to win tournament : 2, 2, 4, 4, 4, 4 rather than get 3, 0, 3, 0, 3, 3 points etc I don't see how it is cowardly to not berserk back, obviously if you are slow and you berserk back some guy 300 pts above you - it's stupid, can't call it courage either...

I agree to many points you' ve mentioned. And of course it's a choice. Jf a player has much lower elo i wouldn't expect him to go berserk. I'm talking about the lurkers with 2000 elo or more just waiting that the other player is going berserk. Speculating that the other player is going berserk but not enough courage to go berserk either. Not willing to risk but hoping the opponent is willing to risk. Or let it say it that way .. who wants to swim with the sharks must be a shark. Who wants o swim with the goldfishes must be a goldfish. And for me a players who is not willing to try to win a tournament is a goldfish :) If i'd compare this to poker i would say the weak players never raise the strong raise more often. And going berserk is like raising it up :) hahaha i will keep swimming with the sharks i will raise ! lol

there is some truth to what you're saying but I am not sure if I fully agree. Let's say there is a 2200 blitz 2400 bullet player (playing strength) in a 3+0 tourney who chooses to berserk everyone. That way his blitz rating drops to 1950 or so which is indicative of his berserk only rating in this tourney.

So where is the threshold for berserking this player back? 1900? 2200? 2500? If you berserk back you are losing a lot of rating in the long run because the player is vastly underrated due to his better bullet skills and berserk only strategy.

I don't know, I berserk back vs most players who are berserking "reasonably" and are not much stronger than me (in addition to obvious berserks vs weaker opps or random berserks for fun).

But vs berserk-onlys? It's the style they chose to play and it's hard to tell their true rating anyway.

edit: fixed spelling

Honor of cinnamon roll, more like.

If you want faster games, just enter a tournament with faster time control.

Just pointing out and probably summarizing what other people have already said: It has nothing to do with honor. If the player believes they can gain some extra points against a relatively weaker opponent, then why not take the risk? The end result might pay off. Other players have the choice not to berserk and try to punish their opponent for cutting their time in half. It is more of a strategical thing than a question of "honor". And please, it's online chess, why would that even be a factor? Unless you're a narcissist/egotistical person, I don't think anyone should care. Play the game to have fun.

I need to have a Berserk T-shirt from the lichess swag shop.
Lichess is great! They bring some innovation to this game with stuff like Berserk. I hope i will find a way to order some Berserk swag from the shop here. But i guess it's only possible to order the chessclothes from the US and Canada
