Regium: Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence

@TheLastKn1ght
Its a scare tactic. They know that they don't have any legal grounds, but they want to make it look like they would be willing to file a lawsuit that would incur legal expenses on lichess. They are trying to get rid of any negative publicity that could turn away potential "investors" by resorting to bullying. Luckily, they appear to be terrible at bullying, as well as PR.

@Koustav123456 There is conclusive evidence that their promotional videos are all fake. The first one is obvious and the second one has editing artifacts clear to anyone looking in detail. Not only are their videos fake, but also the team is likely fake. The only remaining question is if Regium plans to take the money and run or produce a product far inferior to the one promised.

The concept is the exact same as Square Off, but this product does not exist.

All I am saying is, it's quite fine to publish evidence about the scam and it's also fine to discourage people from spending their money on the Kickstarter, but stuff like dislike bombing their videos is too far imo. It feels too much like cancel culture to me, and that's something which I really don't like. I would hope that Regium follow up with some proof of their own.

But of course if they sue people every time they offer criticism, they are really bringing this upon themselves.

P.S - At least from all of this I think a lot of the chess community discovered Square Off, which seems pretty good at least.

How is dislike bombing too far? They deleted all negative comments from their videos. Dislikes were the only way to show the viewers that there is a problem. Honestly they’re not just ‘shady’, pretty much all of their actions point to this being a scam. A company genuinely wanting to market a new product would not resort to fake demonstrations, threats of lawsuits, heavy moderation of criticism wherever they can do it, creating fake personas as their team members, and making new accounts just to aggressively defend their own product.

At this point, the more people we can prevent from supporting the kickstarter, the better. And if Regium’s reputation has to suffer, then so be it. It’s their own doing.

Update: After I posted the link to the Lichess blog all over Regium’s Facebook page, they have deleted those comments and have also disabled comments on their page!

Regarding the video discovered by @Nicals in #199 from https://regiumchess.com/media/, seems to be an unpublished (non-finished) version of the first published video.

I managed to extract the following metadata information, which may be interesting: https://pastebin.com/mPBuX4G2

Additionally, the fake images from https://regiumchess.com/images/team/ are now all scaled down to 200x200.

I think it's funny how they are actively watching this discussion and then making changes to things in order to then be able to turn round and say that there's nothing wrong. How, when accused of using "sock puppets" a new account pops up and goes "no, I know for a fact that Regium would never do that. Oh and just in case you think I'm a sock puppet, I have no connection with Regium whatsoever." How can you be sure that Regium wouldn't do this then, if you know absolutely nothing about them?

I must say, they could have fooled me, but then again I never would have been able to buy such a chessboard in the first place. IMO the most convenient tool for playing is a smartphone.

According to facebook regium are in tampa florida. I think to be able to leave a google reviews for a business that appears next to search results, the business needs to be on google maps. I guess it could be added to google maps in florida. Then honest and accurate reviews could be added to google.

Hello all! When I first saw the video, I was amazed. I sent an e-mail to this guys, showing my interest and promising to collaborate and promote their product at my chess club.

Even though their promotion video was really fishy, I almost believed we were about to enjoy a great chess product.

They answered my e-mail a few days later. They basically said that yes, the product "would work as in the video", once it was made, and then they asked me how much money I could raise for them.

This was my e-mail, all in caps because I had to fill in a form in their site, which only allowed caps, for some reason... they are able to make great hardware, with great software connectivity, yet to send them an e-mail you have to fill in a form in their website and you are only allowed caps?

"DEAR REGIUM, I HAVE JUST SEEN YOUR VIDEO. i'M A LONG TIME USER OF DGT
PRODUCTS, CURRENTLY OWN THE BLUETOOTH BOARD. YOUR BOARD IS OBVIOUSLY VERY
MUCH SUPERIOR, AND ALSO SEEMS MUCH PROMISING ON THE SOFTWARE SIDE, WHERE DGT
HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY MEDIOCRE.

I AM A MEMBER OF CLUB ESCACS MOLLET, NEXT TO BARCELONA, WINNER OF 2017
CATALAN LEAGUE, ONE OF THE TOP CHESS CLUBS IN CATALONIA. I HAVE ALREADY
SHARED YOUR VIDEO WITH THE CLUBS BOARD, AND EVERYONE HAS OFFERED TO
COLLABORATE WITH YOU IN ANY WAY YOU MIGHT NEED, BE IT BETATESTING, DONATION,
OR WHATEVER YOU MIGHT NEED. IF IT WORKS AS IN THE VIDEOS, YOUR BOARDS ARE
OBVIOUSLY THE FUTURE OF HIGH-END CHESSBOARD MARKET.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PROJECT, AND WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK!

JOAN"

This was their answer. Yes, they are obviously spanish, as you can guess by the mail they sent you in bad english, warning you that this situation is "in the hands of their lawyers". They replied to me directly in spanish. As you know, Spain is a country well known for it's ability to manufacture great and innovative technology (sarcasm sign):

Estimado Joan,

Gracias por tus amables palabras. Efectivamente el tablero funcionará como
muestra el video y esperamos que revolucione el mundo del ajedrez y lo lleve
a otro nivel.

Alex"

Translation: "We are promoting a product that doesn't exist, trying to raise a lot of money. Trust us, we totally won't take all your money and disappear".

For now, I'll stick to my combination of bluetooth DGT board and Acid Ape Chess. Thank you very much.
