How can we increase the number of slow thinking games?

Look at this:

Last month one game in three was bullet. The rest are blitz and rapid. Just 0.7% are classical or correspondence. This doesn't sit well with me. I've already integrated Lichess Ladders in Lichess via LiChess Tools (I know, a lot of lichess in that sentence) but it's just a start.

How do you guys see this? Are you OK with it? Do you see a way to increase the number of slow thinking games?

In the time one normal classical games get finished, that same person could have done countless bullet games. Plus there are not really alot of people who like classical online, so the number of people playing are kinda ''unfair''.

Time played is a better metric.

I agree, but I don't have a way to aggregate the time for each game. I could multiply each count with a value, tried that for a bit, but it felt artificial and meaningless

Interesting point that classical people don't like it online. Maybe work on that?

"classical people don't like it online"

  • There are reasons: commitment, eye strain

"aggregate the time"

  • Multiply the time control with the number of games yields a fair estimate:
    1+0 = 2 minutes
    3+2 = 10 minutes
    15+10 = 50 minutes
    30+20 = 100 minutes

I've been keeping an eye on the "number of classical players this week" and it's seemingly dropped a little it's hovered slightly below 40000 since I've been here.

I've been trying to invite people to the ladder when I've had an interesting game but I've not seen much reaction.

why should it even change? People like playing bullet even it unlikely to make them better players. Who cares. This is entertainment. Do what makes you happy.

Do you see a way to increase the number of slow thinking games?

Teach people to enjoy slow thinking chess or make them enjoy purely virtual fun rewards (good examples: Lichievements, Rosen Score...) or make them enjoy real rewards (prize tournaments, maybe even better with random prizes for a pool of everyone who has n finished games).
