I would choose the human players the ones fighting the system that went mad because of 'them' so either Morphy or Fischer I like playing humans not the cheating gods xxx edit; Kramnik and Niemann also xxx

In my head it is Kasparov, to me the highest level of chess I ever witnessed. But the engine generation and that includes Carlsen are possibly even closer to perfection. But that era is not comparable to me due to engine influence. To my heart, there can only be one perfect chess player, the man who combined calculation and imagination. The man with moves that are poetry in motion to me. The one and only Michael Tal. And if they say now yeah, but he made mistakes. My answer is: Watch his games from his opponent's side, without any engine, and see how this man lifts chess into a magical form of art. Pure poetry if you ask me...

If I had to name a perfect chess player maybe drunk and sober Magnus.

But if I had to play a perfect chess player? Fischer. He would look at disgust that he is playing a woman and resign, giving me the win :)

If you ask for a "perfect" chess player, I'd say Kasparov. Why? Because he truly the most (out of these 3) balanced player. Magnus' games are too different, basically you know... it's exactly why Magnus' games are never recommended for players wanting to study openings etc. cuz they are too different and like advanced. Robert too was a bit more of an attacking player...

Magnus Carlsen is the best chess player to live, even now after resigning his world champion title he is unmatched and the highest rated FIDE play to this date.

Now if we are talking about prime versions of each chess player, I would still say Magnus Carlsen, because OTB he is a hawk in the night waiting for you to make an inaccuracy to improve his play. Not to mention that he is one of the best fast chess players as well, OTB and on chess.com. He is simply unmatched in both categories.

Here's my tier list of the 3 players mentioned:

  1. Magnus Carlsen
  2. Garry Kasparov
  3. Bobby Fischer

Garry and Magnus are simply unmatched OTB, both reaching a peak rating of above 2850!!
